HEDGES ist ein Stück, das beim Improvisieren auf einer Bariton-Gitarre (Ovation) entstand, die ich mir seinerzeit zugelegt hatte. Die Komposition ist inspiriert vom Sound des Gitarren-Innovators Michael Hedges. Daher auch der Titel. Die verwendete Baritongitarre von Ovation ist einen Ganzton tiefer gestimmt sind als eine normale Gitarre, daher der etwas vollere, sattere Sound. Zudem habe ich beim Abmischen der Aufnahme etwas Hall und Verzögerung hinzugefügt, um den Klang noch fetter zu machen. Daher entsteht zeitweise der Eindruck, dass zwei Gitarren spielen, was nicht der Fall ist.
This song took shape after I had purchased a new Ovation guitar and started to improvise on that new guitar. It is inspired by the sound of of the late great guitar innovator Michael Hedges. Hence the title. The guitar in charge here is a baritone which means that all strings are tuned one hole note lower than on a normal guitar. Thus, when you fret, for instance, the chord E minor you will actually hear D minor. The lowest note on the guitar is a D and I extensively made use of that note to have a voluminous bass. Moreover, when mixing the recording I added some reverb and delay to make the sound even fatter. Therefore one might have the impression that there are two guitars playing which is not the case.
