FRÜHLING IN FRANKFURT ist eine instrumentale Suite für akustische Gitarre in 3 Sätzen.

Der erste Satz „Ankunft“ wurde im April 2011 geschrieben und ähnelt einer klassischen Komposition – zumindest nach meinen Maßstäben als nicht-klassischer Gitarrist. Der zweite Satz „Arbeit“ wurde 2009 komponiert, und eine frühere Aufnahme dieses Teils ist auf youtube in einer viel langsameren Version zu hören. (siehe unten). Der dritte Satz „Abschied“ war ursprünglich als Band-Arrangement geplant, ich habe dafür auch einen englischen Text geschrieben, aber nie aufgenommen. Allerdings habe ich die Komposition im Jahr 2020 wieder aufgegriffen und unter dem Titel „Sometimes In Life“ als Instrumental auf ACOUSTIC VENUE veröffentlicht.

FRÜHLING IN FRANKFURT is an instrumental suite for acoustic guitar in 3 movements.

The first movement „Arrival“ was written in April 2011 and resembles a classical composition – at least by my standards as a non-classical guitarist. The second movement „Work“ was composed in 2009, and an earlier recording of this part can be heard on youtube in a much slower version. (see below). The third movement „Farewell“ was originally planned as a band arrangement, I also wrote English lyrics for it, but never recorded it. However, I picked up the composition again in 2020 and released it as an instrumental on ACOUSTIC VENUE under the title „Sometimes In Life“.

In this new recording of 2020, I added a newly written part and skipped the original middle section. I played it on my guitarlele and called this version „Horizons“.

Der dritte Satz „Abschied“ war ursprünglich ein Band-Arrangement und ich habe sogar einen englischen Text dazu geschrieben. Es war also eher als jazzige Pop-Ballade geplant. Leider gelang mir dafür keine befriedigende Aufnahme, und so entschied ich mich, ein Arrangement für akustische Sologitarre zu schreiben, und kam damit der allerersten Version näher, als ich mich noch im Prozess des Komponierens befand war. 2020 habe ich den Song nochmals aufgegriffen und unter dem Titel „Sometimes In Life“ neu aufgenommen, zu finden auf meinem Album ACOUSTIC VENUE.

The third movement „Abschied“ was originally a band arrangement and I even wrote English lyrics for it. So it was quite a jazzy pop ballad. But when I tried to record that version I wasn’t really satisfied with the result and so I decided to write an arrangement for solo acoustic guitar – which, anyway was close to the very first version when I was still in the process of composing. However, I revisited the composition in 2020 and re-recorded it under the title „Sometimes In Life“.

Song For My Mother

Dieser Song stammt aus der Zeit um 2001 und wurde live von Uwe Fischer und Heiko Köbert aufgenommen, die damals das Gitarrenduo RIO BRIO bildeten (diese Website war ursprünglich die Webpräsenz des Duos, daher der Titel).

Die Grundidee für den Song wurde von Heiko Köbert entwickelt, aber beide Musiker arbeiteten die Melodie und das Arrangement des Stücks aus.

Rio Brio war ein Gitarrenduo, das ursprünglich Arpeggio hieß und Mitte der 1980er Jahre in Aschaffenburg gegründet wurde. Um 1988 legte das Duo eine Pause ein, weil Köbert nach Düsseldorf zog. Ein halbes Jahr später zog zufälligereise auch Uwe Fischer dorthin und das Duo arbeitete weiter zusammen, nun unter dem Namen Rio Brio. Um 2004 gingen die Partner getrennte Wege.

This song dates back to around 2001 and was recorded live by Uwe Fischer and Heiko Köbert who at the time formed the guitar duo RIO BRIO (this website was originally the duo’s web presentation, hence the title).

The main idea for the song was developed by Heiko Köbert but both musicians worked out the melody and arrangement of the tune.

Rio Brio was a guitar duo originally named Arpeggio and founded in the mid 1980’s in the German town Aschaffenburg. The duo took a break around 1988 because Köbert moved to Düsseldorf. Incidentally, Uwe Fischer also moved there half a year later and the duo continued to work together now under the name Rio Brio. Around 2004 the partners went separate ways.

2020 veröffentlichte ich das Album ACOUSTIC VENUE auf den einschlägigen Musikplattformen. GOLDEN DAYS ist der letzte Titel des Albums, ein Gitarreninstrumental, dessen Backingtrack zum Großteil mit Band in the Box realisiert wurde.

In 2020 I released the album ACOUSTIC VENUE on all the relevant music platforms. GOLDEN DAYS is the last track of the album, a guitar instrumental whose backing track was mostly realized with Band in the Box.

Bassic Ingredients

Dieser Song wurde für eine 5-saitige akustische Bassgitarre geschrieben (und auf ihr gespielt). Die Idee war, die Technik der Fingerstylegitarre auf den Bass zu übertragen. Um dem Ganzen etwas mehr Rhythmus zu geben, habe ich Percussions hinzugefügt.

This song was written for (and performed on) a 5-string acoustic bass guitar. The idea was to adopt my fingerstyle guitar technique to the bass. I added some percussions to give it a better rhythm.

Train To Nowhere

This music was composed and recorded in May, 2012. It has two parts, a somewhat slow intro with background noise from train stations and trains followed by an uptempo main theme for piano. Most sounds are from my Triton and NI Kontakt sample player but the sitar resembing sound comes from the buzzing G-string of an Ovation guitar. In addition, I used a fretless acoustic bass for a short phrase and a semi-acoustic guitar for the middle eight. The song was suppused to have a third part, but somehow it slipped my mind. Maybe I will add it some time.

Diese Melodie habe ich im Mai 2012 komponiert und aufgenommen. Sie besteht aus zwei Teilen, einem etwas langsamen Intro mit Hintergrundgeräuschen von Bahnhöfen und Zügen, gefolgt von einem Uptempo-Hauptthema für Klavier. Die meisten Sounds stammen von meinem Triton und NI Kontakt Sample Player, aber der Sitar-ähnliche Klang kommt von der schnarrenden G-Saite einer Ovation-Gitarre. Außerdem habe ich einen fretless acoustic bass für eine kurze Phrase und eine semi-akustische Gitarre für den Mitteltril verwendet. Der Song ist eigentlich noch gar nicht fertig, denn eigentlich wollte ich mir einen dritten Teil dazu ausdenken. Habe ich dann aber vergessen.

In der Regel komponiere ich meine Stücke auf der Gitarre, aber hin und wieder auch auf dem  Piano. In diesen Fällen kommen meistens sehr getragene Werke heraus, ganz einfach, weil ich ein miserabler Pianist bin und nur in langsamen Tempi einigermaßen sicher spielen kann. 🙂 CONTEMPLATION ist ein solches Stück, sehr ruhig, sehr relaxed und folgerichtig als Meditationsmusik angelegt.

I usually compose my pieces on the guitar, but now and then on the piano. In these cases, mostly very sustained works come out, simply because I’m a lousy pianist and can only play reasonably confidently in slow tempos. 🙂 CONTEMPLATION is such a piece, very calm, very relaxed and consequently designed as meditation music.

1990 erschien meine erste CD, die ich seinerzeit zusammen mit Aurelio Calabro unter dem Gruppennamen HEAVEN & EARTH auf dessen Honeyland Label veröffentlichte. Die CD war dann aber leider mangels Vertrieb nicht im Handel erhältlich, daher sind die meisten Songs nirgendwo im Internet zu finden. „Cómo mola“ war einer der Titel, die ich extra für die CD komponiert hatte (und auf der CD unter dem Titel „Hombre“ zu hören ist). Neben mir (Gitarre) und Aurelio (Bass, Flöte) ist auch Piesba Supertino an den Percussions zu hören.

In 1990 my first CD appeared, which I released at that time together with Aurelio Calabro under the group name HEAVEN & EARTH on his Honeyland label. The CD was then unfortunately not available in stores due to lack of distribution, so most of the songs are nowhere to be found on the Internet. „Cómo mola“ was one of the tracks I composed especially for the CD. Besides me (guitar) and Aurelio (bass, flute) you can also hear Piesba Supertino on percussions.

Im Juni 2010 kaufte ich eine 12-saitige Akustikgitarre und spielte und komponierte ein paar Tage lang fast ausschließlich auf diesem Instrument. Am 31. Juni entstand auf diese Weise „Here’s My Song“ in einer Demo-Aufnahme. Die Version, die ich hier vorstelle, ist von 2012. Sie erinnert mich ein wenig an einige Songs, die Roger Hodgson komponiert hat, als er Mitglied von Supertramp war. Neben der 12-saitigen Gitarre, die das Fundament der Komposition bildet, habe ich meine Melodica, meinen Fretless Akustikbass sowie einen E-Bass und meine Triton Workstation verwendet. Das Editing und Mixing habe ich in Cubase gemacht.

In June 2010, I bought a 12-string acoustic guitar and for a couple of days I played and composed on that instrument almost exclusively. Likewise, on the 31st of June I composed „Here’s My Song“ and made a demo recording. The version that I present here is from 2012. It reminds me a bit of some songs composed by Roger Hodgson, when he was a member of Supertramp. Apart from the 12-string guitar which lays the foundation of the composition I used my melodica, my fretless acoustic bass as well as an electric bass and my Triton workstation. The editing and mixing was done in Cubase.

Lazing In The Lake Gardens

Dieses Stück habe ich 2019 in Malaysia geschrieben und bei der Gelegenheit auch gleich das Video dazu aufgenommen. Die Aufnahmen entstanden in den Lake Gardens in der Hauptstadt Kuala Lumpur, und darum heißt der Song auch LAZING IN THE LAKE GARDENS.

I wrote this piece in Malaysia in 2019 and also took the opportunity to record the video for it. The recordings were made in the Lake Gardens in the capital Kuala Lumpur, and that’s why the song is called LAZING IN THE LAKE GARDENS.
