SILENCE habe ich ursprünglich für zwei Gitarren für mein Gitarrenduo „Arpeggio“ komponiert, um 1988. Es gehörte viele Jahre lang zu unserem Live-Repertoire, und ich glaube, von all meinen Kompositionen habe ich diese öfter aufgenommen als jede andere. Es gibt davon Aufnahmen im Original-Arrangement, aber auch welche mit weiteren Instrumenten. Die hier präsentierte Version ist ein Arrangement für nur eine (Bariton-)Gitarre.

This song was originally composed for two guitars around 1988 for my guitar duo „Arpeggio“. It was part of our live repertoire for many years, and I think of all my compositions this one I recorded more often than any other. In most recordings I added instruments to the basic guitar duo, but this particular one is a rearrangement for solo guitar. In this case I used an Ovation baritone guitar.

INNER VISIONS OUTER SPACE ist ein Remix einer früheren Komposition namens YOU USED TO SAY. Da ich die Einzelspuren, die seinerzeit mit einem Korg Triton eingespielt wurden, nicht mehr besaß, habe ich einfach die Stereodatei als Grundlage genommen und in Cubase mit zusätzlichen Sounds ergänzt. 

INNER VISIONS OUTER SPACE is a remix of an earlier composition called YOU USED TO SAY. Since I no longer had the individual tracks, which were recorded with a Korg Triton at the time, I simply took the stereo file as a basis and added additional sounds in Cubase.

Eine meiner frühesten Kompositionen für klassische Gitarre stammt aus den 1980er Jahren. Es ist eine meiner eigenen Lieblingsmelodien. Im Laufe der Jahre erfuhr das Instrumental mehrere Änderungen, aber das Hauptthema blieb gleich. Ich habe auch einen Text dazu geschrieben, mit dem Ziel, es in einen Popsong zu verwandeln. Liegt aber noch in der Schublade.

One of my earliest compositions for classical guitar dates back to the 1980s. It is one of my own favourite tunes. During the years, the instrumental saw several changes but the main theme remained the same. I also wrote lyrics to it, aiming to turn it into a pop song, but it’s still in the drawer.

1986 oder ’87 hatte ich mit meinem Job als Radio-DJ ein wenig Geld verdient und konnte es mir leisten, einen (für meine Verhältnisse damals sündhaft teuren) Roland S50 Sample-Player zu kaufen, der mir zum ersten Mal die Möglichkeit eröffnete, professionell gesampelte Instrumentenklänge in meiner Musik zu verwenden. Diese Skizze entstand beim Erforschen des Instruments. Ich meine, das Stück könnte sich ganz gut als Hintergrundmusik in einer Comedy-Fernsehserie machen.

1986 or 7 I had earned a bit of money in my job as a radio DJ and could affort to buy a Roland S50 sample player (costed a fortune) which gave me, for the first time, the opportunity to incorporate professionally sampled instrument sounds into my music. This song is a miniature that evolved while exploring the instrument. I always felt it could serve well as background music in a comedy TV series.

Der Song THE OCCUPANT entstand während des 1. Lockdowns in Deutschland 2020 und ist Teil meines Albums ACOUSTIC VENUE. Alle Instrumente (Gitarren, Bass, Keyboards gespielt von Uwe Fischer) wurden mit einem Spire Studio Achtspurrecorder aufgezeichnet .

The song THE OCCUPANT was recorded during the 1st lockdown in Germany 2020 and is part of my album ACOUSTIC VENUE. All instruments (guitars, bass, keyboards played by Uwe Fischer) were recorded with a Spire Studio eight-track recorder.

Gilberto

Geschrieben im Jahr 2002, ist dieses Stück eine Widmung an Joao Gilberto und Gilberto Gil. Sie haben wie so viele brasilianische Gitarristen die Gabe, sehr komplexe Harrmonien und Rhythmen so klingen zu lassen, als sei es leicht und einfach zu spielen – was überhaupt nicht der Fall ist. „Gilberto“ ist mein Versuch, ein solches Stück zu schreiben und es hat Jahre gedauert, bis ich es spielen konnte 🙂

Written in 2002, this piece is a dedication to both Joao Gilberto and Gilberto Gil. They, as so many Brazilian guitarists have the gift of playing very complex harrmonies and rhythms in a way that it sounds light and easy – which is not the case at all. „Gilberto“ is my attempt to write such a piece and it took me years to be able to play it 🙂

Dieses Lied habe ich 2016 geschrieben, aber die Aufnahme musste noch bis 2020 warten. Ich habe ein Spire Studio 8-Spur-Recorder verwendet, um die Gitarren und den Gesang aufzunehmen und später zusätzliche Keyboardspuren auf meinem PC hinzugefügt. Dieser Song ist auch auf Spotify, iTunes, Amazon usw. erhältlich.

This song I wrote in 2016, however, the recording had to wait until 2020. I used a Spire Studio 8 track recorder to record guitars and vocals and added additional keyboard tracks later on my PC. This song is also available on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon etc.

Perhentian Paradise

Wenn ich mich recht erinnere, wurde PERHENTIAN PARADISE während eines Aufenthalts in Thailand geschrieben. Die Perhentians gehören natürlich zu Malaysia, und ich hatte damals vor, sie zu besuchen. Dazu ist es aber nicht gekommen. Seinerzeit hatte ich auch einen Songtext dazu in Arbeit, den ich aber nie aufgeschrieben habe und an den ich mich daher nur bruchstückhaft erinnere.

If I remember correctly, PERHENTIAN PARADISE was written during a stay in Thailand. The Perhentians, of course, belong to Malaysia, and I had intended to visit them at that time but it did not happen. At that time I had also been working on a song lyric for it, but I never wrote it down and therefore I remember it only fragmentarily.
